ADVENTURES FOR THE SEASON

Warm Weather Activites

IN SUMMER

Summer changes the mountain without softening it. Snow gives way to trail, meadow, and open sky, with long days that invite hiking, riding, fishing, and time farther out in the San Juans.

The season also brings Telluride into fuller rhythm, with festivals, evenings in town, and the easy movement between mountain quiet and something more social. Days stretch naturally between both.

Horseback Riding in the High Rockies

Move through the valley at a pace set by the land. Rides follow open meadows, river corridors, and higher ground, offering long views and a sense of scale without urgency.

Outings range from shorter rides close to the property to half-day excursions further into the surrounding terrain. Suitable for most experience levels, with routes adjusted to rider comfort.

Guided Hiking

Hiking departs directly from Dunton or nearby trailheads, depending on route and conditions. Walks move through forest, alpine basins, and open terrain, with options that range from gentle exploration to longer, more demanding days.

Routes are selected based on interest, ability, and weather. Private and family-friendly hikes can be arranged.

Mountain biking

For experienced riders, long descents and open terrain are accessible via nearby trail systems. Routes are chosen for flow, distance, and changing elevation. Shuttle support can be arranged where needed. Technical riding is required on some routes, and conditions vary by season.

Sand Canyon & Sutcliffe Vineyards

A day spent beyond the valley. The outing begins with time among the sculpted canyon walls of Sand Canyon, followed by lunch and a tasting at Sutcliffe Vineyards before returning to Dunton.

This experience is typically planned as a full day and scheduled in advance. Details are arranged around timing, interests, and group size.

Fly Fishing

The West Dolores River runs directly through the valley, offering steady water shaped by season and snowmelt. Fishing is quiet and unhurried, with ample space to spread out along the banks.

Half-day and full-day options are available, with guides arranged as needed. Experience can be tailored for first-time anglers or those looking to spend longer hours on the water.

Rock Sports

Climbing and scrambling routes are available in the surrounding canyon and rock formations during warmer months. Activities range from introductory movement on rock to more technical outings, depending on interest and experience.

Off-Road Tours

Off-road tours explore backcountry terrain beyond the valley, offering access to wider landscapes and changing elevations. The pace remains measured, with routes selected for conditions and interest rather than distance alone.

Typically planned as half-day or full-day outings.
