UNDISTURBED HIGHLANDS

Adventures at Kilchoan Estate

ON THE ESTATE

At Kilchoan, activities begin with the landscape itself. The estate stretches across mountain, river, loch, forest, and shoreline, with days shaped more by weather and ground than by schedule. The setting lends itself to fishing, hiking, stalking, and quieter ways of being out in the land.

Some plans are made in advance, others decide themselves in the moment. Either way, the practical details can remain expertly handled, leaving more room for the day to unfold on its own terms.

Fishing

Fishing at Kilchoan moves between river and loch. The Inverie River runs west from Loch an Dubh-lochain toward Loch Nevis and holds salmon, sea trout, and brown trout, while the loch itself also contains Arctic charr.

Loch fishing is by boat, while the river is worked pool by pool, often with waders. There is also the hill loch, Loch Brhoamisaig, set around 800 feet above sea level and reached in roughly an hour and a half. Timing depends on season and rainfall, so this is the kind of day best planned with a little local guidance.

Guided Hiking

Knoydart can be walked in different ways. Some routes stay low, following the shoreline or moving quietly through woodland. Others climb higher into the hills, where the landscape opens out and the scale of the peninsula becomes clearer.

Guided walks can be arranged for different levels and interests, offering a closer understanding of the land, its wildlife, and its history. For those who prefer to set their own pace, route leaflets are provided on arrival, from easier walks to longer and more demanding days out.

Stalking

Stalking at Kilchoan is part of the wider rhythm of the estate; days spent moving through steep Highland ground, reading weather, distance, and the land itself. It offers a close encounter with Knoydart at its most remote and elemental.

Stag stalking runs from late summer into 20 October, with hind stalking following from late October into mid-February. Stays are typically arranged on a weekly basis, with accommodation at Kilchoan Farmhouse. Because the terrain is steep and demanding, a solid level of fitness is required, and the estate can assist with practical arrangements including rifles, catering, and planning in advance.
